Wolford was founded in 1950 in Bregenz, on Lake Constance in Austria, as a small producer of pure silk and rayon stockings. The brand's name is a portmanteau of founder Reinhold Wolff and the city of Oxford. It quickly established itself thanks to an innovative round-knitting technology developed and refined in-house.
